Microsoft introduces Defender ATP for Android

Microsoft announced the public preview of Microsoft Defender ATP for Android to Protect mobile devices from evolving threats, phishing attacks and unwanted apps. 

Businesses nowadays can be carried out from distinct devices, creating a very fine line between personal and official data on the device. Phishing attacks is considered to be the most biggest and fastest growing threats on mobile, majority of which happen outside of email, such as via phishing sites, messaging apps, games, and other applications, and are really tricky to spot. Some other mobile threats include malicious applications that users are tempted into downloading, as well as rooted devices that adds to the security of the device that may allow unneeded surged access and privileges and the installation of unauthorized applications that may become potential risk.

Microsoft is taking a holistic approach to tackling these challenges and to securing enterprises and their data with new mobile threat defense capabilities. Microsoft Defender ATP for Android will help to protect enterprises and their users by employing following features:


Protection from phishing:

Web protection capabilities enabling protection from phishing and access to risky URLs and domains which blocks unsafe sites that can be accessed through email, browsers, SMS, social media and other apps. Microsoft is employing the same Microsoft Defender SmartScreen services that runs on Windows to quickly detect malicious sites. The same technique will be used across all devices in an organization to block a suspicious site.


Proactive scanning of malicious applications, files, and potentially unwanted applications:

Microsoft's intelligence on application reputation and cloud-powered protection helps in quickly detecting malware in potentially unwanted applications that users may download to their mobile devices.


Adding layers of protection:

Utilizing Microsoft Endpoint Manager and Conditional Access to help prevent and limit the impact of breaches in an organization. Devices identified to be compromised with malicious apps or malware are considered high risk and are blocked from accessing corporate resources.


A unified security experience:

Microsoft Defender Security Center enables defenders to monitor alerts and easily get the details they need to quickly assess and respond to threats across Windows, Mac, Linux, and now mobile devices.
